The City of Buena Vista is encouraging residents to remain vigilant in preparation of Hurricane Florence.
Public safety officials are maintaining situational awareness and are in communication with regional and state partners, including Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM).
City officials are preparing for the storm by performing creek maintenance and drainage maintenance, as well as preparing floodwall operations, should they become necessary.
The Red Cross will be operating a regional shelter at Natural Bridge Hotel. This regional shelter will be open to Buena Vista residents, should they need to evacuate the city.
Residents are asked to remain vigilant and be prepared for high winds and heavy rains from the storm. Please secure all loose items outside of your residence, and be prepared for extended power outages. Check your emergency kit, and be sure your family has adequate water, non-perishable foods and any other items necessary to be self-sufficient for 72 hours.
Do not drive or walk through water-covered roadways. Remember, Turn around, don’t drown.
