Recycling Changes Effective Immediately

Effective May 9, 2019, Auto Recyclers is shifting from unattended recycling drop-off to full-service recycling drop-off inside their facility. The recycling drop-off bins located in the parking lot in front of the old Silk Mill, across from JJ’s Meat Shak, will be removed.

Citizens wishing to recycle can bring their materials to Auto Recyclers, located at 1400 Sycamore Ave., during their regular business hours:

  • Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday 9:00 a.m. -11:45 a.m.

Items accepted are cardboard, mixed paper, household container plastic 1 and 2 only, container glass i.e. bottles and jars, tin cans and aluminum cans. Any other plastic, including rigid plastic will no longer be accepted.

Household recycling will be received and processed similar to commercial recycling. Residents must provide a photo ID and sort their own recyclables into provided hoppers and must take back any rejected recyclable, including trash bags. There is no fee for residents to drop off recycling. Residents may collect and transport their items in any container.

Please do not dump or drop off items outside Auto Recyclers facility after hours or at the former unattended collection point. As a reminder, in May 2018 the City discontinued collection of household recycling as part of weekly curbside/alley refuse pickup. Please take all recyclable materials to Auto Recyclers.

Please note that these changes stem from national and international changes in recycling policies, which are beyond the city’s control.  We appreciate your understanding as we transition to this new system and thank you for your efforts to reduce landfill waste. For questions about hours and procedures at Auto Recyclers, please contact (540) 261-9991 or their website.
