On Tuesday, May 8th, the City of Buena Vista received notice from its recycling provider that single stream curbside recycling materials will no longer be accepted. Throughout the United State, recycling markets have changed dramatically due to global waste stream economics. Currently the City is investigating other alternatives and related costs to single stream collection. The collection operations of residential waste will not change at this time; however, the disposal will temporarily be different. Starting Monday, May 14, 2018, all residential waste will be disposed of at the Blue Ridge Resource Authority landfill located in the County. However, we are asking residents to continue to separate recyclables from trash.
City staff are reviewing several options and will provide those options to the City Manager in the near future. Residents can continue to take accepted recyclables to the recycling bins located at Auto Recyclers LLC located at 1400 Sycamore Ave. Should you have any questions please contact Public Works Department at 540-261-1444.
