Enderly Heights Safe Routes to School Project

The City of Buena Vista and Buena Vista Public Schools are excited to announce that construction has begun on the Enderly Heights Safe Routes to School sidewalk enhancement project. In the works for several years, this project will construct new sidewalk on portions of 2nd Street and 3rd Street, as well as flashing pedestrian lights and crosswalks at the intersections of Magnolia Avenue with these streets.

The Safe Routes to School funding program through the Virginia Department of Transportation targets pedestrian safety improvements near elementary and middle schools. This project will make it safer and easier for students to walk or bike to Enderly Heights Elementary School, which serves third through sixth graders in Buena Vista.

Construction is expected to last 8-10 weeks to final completion. During this time, 2nd Street and 3rd Street between Magnolia Avenue and Woodland Avenue will be intermittently closed to through traffic. As an alternate route, please use 4th Street. For questions about the project, please contact Tom Roberts, Director of Planning & Community Development, at (540) 261-8607 or troberts@bvcity.org.
