With a sunny day between snow storms, ten new trees were planted in downtown Buena Vista! The trees were strategically located to provide shade and to improve rain water absorption, as well as provide aesthetic benefits. The project was funded by the Virginia Trees for Clean Water grant program, administered by the Virginia Department of Forestry. Orrison Tree Service and Shreckhise Nursery installed the Kousa Dogwoods and Sweet Bay Magnolias by City Hall, Penny Park, Post Office, and the municipal parking lot on Forest.
This project is part of the long-term downtown enhancement program, which includes new trees and pavers in the median along Magnolia Avenue, as well as flower planters at intersections. Future projects include additional sidewalk repairs and additional trees.
